Major John M. Diaz

Major Diaz is a native of Chicago, IL. He was commissioned through the Officer Candidate Course in August 1998.  In September 1999, Major Diaz reported to 1st Platoon, Truck Company, 1st Marine Division as a platoon commander.  In August of 2000 he assumed the duties of 5th Marine Regiment Motor Transport Officer.  In 2001 Major Diaz was transferred to 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines as the Motor Transport Officer and deployed with 3/5 on the Unit Deployment Program to Okinawa, Japan.

In September 2002, Major Diaz was promoted to Captain and reported to III Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa, Japan and served as the Joint Operation Planning and Execution System/ Time Phased Force Deployment Data officer.  In September of 2003 Major Diaz was transferred to 3d Long Shoremen Platoon, 4th Landing Support Battalion, Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico, where he served as the Inspector Instructor for the Marine reserve unit.

In September 2006 Major Diaz reported to 2nd Battalion 5th Marines (2/5) as the (S4) logistics officer.  February 2007, 2nd Battalion 5th Marines was deployed for 7months to Al Anbar province as part of the OIF surge, and assigned to 1-3 Brigade Combat Team, Ramadi, Iraq.  Upon return from Iraq, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines was designated to deploy with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU).  In May 2008, 2/5 Battalion Landing Team deployed with the 15th MEU aboard the USS Peleilu, Major Diaz served as the BLT S4.  Major Diaz also served as the Commander, Headquarters and Service Company 2/5.

July 2009 Major Diaz was promoted to his current rank and assigned to Marine Air Control Group, 3d Marine Air Wing, Miramar, CA to serve as the Group S4.  In September 2009 Major Diaz was selected as an individual augment to serve with Special Operations Command CENTCOM.  He deployed to Yemen as the J4 for Special Operations Command Forward (Yemen) as part of Combined Forces Special Operations Component Command - CENTCOM.

July 2012 Major Diaz was assigned to Headquarters US European Command (EUCOM) in Stuttgart, Germany.  In EUCOM he served as the J4 Future Operations (FUOPS) Planner for the EUCOM J35 Plans Division.  In July 2015 Major Diaz reported to his current assignment at Headquarters Battalion, 1st MARDIV serving as the Battalion S4 and currently serving as the Battalion Executive Officer. 

Major Diaz is a graduate of the University of Miami (FL) with a Bachelors of Arts degree, and a graduate of the Marine Corps Command and Staff College with a Masters of Military Studies.  His personal awards include the outstanding volunteer medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Joint Achievement Award, combat action ribbon, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation (four awards), Joint Commendation Medal, and Defense Meritorious Service Medal.
