CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, on March1, 1941, at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, the 1st Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marines Division, Fleet Marine Force, was duly activated, with subsequent Campaigns in World War II at Guadalcanal, at Finschhafen, at New Britain, at Peleliu, at Okinawa; and
WHEREAS, the 1st Battalion, 1st Marines has continued to render Outstanding Services to the United States of America in times of both War and Peace in China, in Japan, in Korea, in the Republic of Vietnam, at Camp Pendleton, in Southwest Asia, in Pakistan, in Afghanistan, in Iraq, and in other points around the globe; and
WHEREAS, the 1st Battalion, 1st Marines is currently deployed afloat in Southwest Asian waters in the Battalion's continuing service to the United States of America to the State of California, to the County of Orange, and to the City of Newport Beach; and
WHEREAS, the 1st Battalion, 1st Marines has been the recipient of numerous awards and decorations from the United States of America and from foreign governments as well.
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that I, Steven Bromberg, Mayor of the City of Newport Beach, do hereby recognize and thank
1ST BATTALION, 1ST MARINES
for its long, faithful, and professional service and outstanding contributions in the highest traditions of the United States Marine Corps, and hereby proclaim that as of this day the City of Newport Beach and its citizens embrace the 1st Battalion, 1st Marines as its own.
