Chaplain Mark A. Miller, Jr.

Mark A. Miller, Jr. is a native of Genoa, Ohio. Upon high school graduation, he served active duty as an enlisted airman in the USAF (November 1987-November 1991). Airman Miller was a fuel system mechanic on F-16s at Torrejon AFB, Spain, and C-141s at McGuire AFB, NJ. Following his enlistment, he furthered his education and is a 1996 graduate of Baptist Bible College East, Boston, MA, receiving a Bachelor degree in Biblical Studies. In 1996 he was ordained as an independent Baptist minister and is endorsed by Liberty Baptist Fellowship.
Prior to being commissioned as a US Navy chaplain, Chaplain Miller served as Senior Pastor of Temple Baptist Church in Ridge, NY (February 1996-December 2012). While there, he earned both a Master of Arts in Religion degree and Master of Divinity degree in Chaplaincy from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary, Lynchburg, VA. He later served as Assistant Pastor at GraceWay Bible Church in Hamilton, NJ (January 2014-May 2016).
Chaplain Miller was commissioned as a Lieutenant Junior Grade in February 2013; while serving at his second pastorate, he served as a drilling reservist at NOSC Fort Dix, NJ, ministering to 800 active duty and reserve Navy personnel. He was assigned to MCAS Beaufort, SC, providing support to the Base Chaplain and 4000 active duty service members and their families. In June 2016 Chaplain Miller reported as Western Rivers Chaplain, St. Louis, MO. He supported Sectors Upper Mississippi River, Lower Mississippi River, and Ohio Valley covering 22 states, which included 17 cutters, 62 units, 6 National Commands, and over 2200 active duty personnel. During this tour, Chaplain Miller deployed twice in response to Hurricane Matthew (October 2016) and Hurricane Harvey (September 2017). In July 2019 Chaplain Miller reported as 1st Marine Reconnaissance Battalion Chaplain, 1st Reconnaissance Battalion Camp Pendleton, CA. While serving at 1st Recon he became a Fleet Marine Force Qualified Officer and earn his Parachutist Badge. In July 2020 Chaplain Miller reported to 1/1, Camp Horno, as the BN Chaplain.
Chaplain Miller has received the USCG Commendation Medal, USCG Achievement Medal, USAF Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal (two awards), the Global War on Terror Service Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, and various other unit and personal commendations.
