Chaplain Seth Bryant commissioned in the United States Navy in 2011 as a Lieutenant Junior Grade. In January 2012, he reported to Officer Development School, Naval Station Newport, RI. Upon graduation, he attended the Professional Naval Chaplaincy Basic Leadership Course at Fort Jackson, SC. His first assignment is to 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment at MCAGCC Twentynine Palms, CA.
Previous to commissioning, Chaplain Bryant enlisted in the United States Army Reserve in 1998 while a junior in high school. During the summer between his junior and senior years, he attended Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, OK. Upon completing high school, he attended Advanced Individual Training as a 25U (Signal Support Systems Specialist) at Fort Gordon, GA. While a reservist, he was assigned to the Commo Shop of the 328th Combat Support Hospital, Fort Douglas, UT. In 2002, he reenlisted into the Utah Army National Guard, assigned to 1st Battalion, 211th Aviation Regiment. In 2003, he reclassified as a 15R (Attack Helicopter Repairer), and attended the US Army Aviation and Logistics School at Fort Eustis, VA. While reclassifying, he was awarded the Command Sergeant Major Citation for highest grade-point average of all graduates. In support of Operation Enduring Freedom, from November of 2003 to April of 2005, his unit was called up to active duty and he was assigned as the Recruiting Operations NCO at the University of Utah Army ROTC. In 2006, he completed his second enlistment and began attending school full-time.
In 2005, Chaplain Bryant completed both a certificate in accounting and an associate of science degree (high honors); and then, in 2007, a bachelor of arts degree (summa cum laude). He then went on to receive two graduate degrees in religion, first from the University of Florida in 2008, and then from Vanderbilt University in 2011.
The ministerial experience of Chaplain Bryant includes missionary work in Raleigh, NC (2000-2002); youth ministry in Holladay, UT (2005-2007); executive field ministry in various US locations (2009); and pastoring as associate pastor of the Cedar Ridge Congregation, Nashville, TN (2009-2011).
Chaplain Bryant and his wife, Jennifer, met in the mission field in 2001, and were married in 2003. Together, they have two children: Lincoln, who is eight; and Ella Rebekah, who is five.
