Commanding Officer's Biography

Captain Jahelka was born on September 27, 1983 in San Diego, CA.  He attended San Diego State University from 2001 to 2005 and graduated with honors with a BA in History.  He was commissioned on June 1, 2005.  From June 2005 to April 2006 he attended the Basic Officer Course and Infantry Officer Course in Quantico, VA.  Upon graduation he was assigned to Second Battalion, Fourth Marines in Camp Pendleton, CA.

From May 2006 to June 2007 he served as a platoon commander in Fox Company, 2/4.  During that time he deployed on the 15th MEU(SOC) and conducted combat operations in Ar Ramadi, Iraq.  From June 2007 to June 2008 he served as the Executive Officer of Fox Company 2/4 and deployed on the 31st MEU(SOC).  From June 2008 to October 2008 he served as the Assistant Operations Officer of 2/4.  In October 2008 he assumed command of H&S Company, 2/4 and attended the Rapid Response Planning Course in Coronado, CA as part of the pre deployment training for the 13th MEU(SOC).  In March 2009 he was assigned to the School of Infantry (W).

From March 2009 to October 2009 he served as the Fox Company Executive Officer at SOI(W).  In October 2009 he assumed command of Fox Company.  During this time he completed Expeditionary Warfare School (DEP) and the Fire Support Coordination Course, graduating with Honors from both.  From October 2010 to October 2011 he served as the Operations Officer of Marine Combat Training Battalion.  In October 2011 he was assigned to the Maneuver Captain’s Career Course.

In May 2012 he graduated from the Maneuver Captain’s Career Course with Honors and was assigned to Second Battalion, Seventh Marines where he assumed command of Echo Company.

Captain Jahelka’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and Iraqi Campaign Medal.

First Sergeant's Biography

First Sergeant Brian P. Monroe is a native of Louisville, Kentucky who enlisted in the Marine Corps on 9 June 1996 and attended recruit training at MCRD Parris Island, SC.  Upon completion of recruit training in August 1996, Private First Class Monroe attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Geiger, NC.  In September 1996, Private First Class Monroe was assigned to Light Armored Vehicle (LAV) Repairman Course at Aberdeen, MD. 

In December 1996, Private First Class Monroe reported to First Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion (LAR), Delta Company, Camp Pendleton, CA where he performed the duties of LAV repairman.  From June 1998 through December 1998, Corporal Monroe was deployed with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), BLT 3/1 to the Persian Gulf in support of Operation Southern Watch.

In August 2000 to February 2001, Sergeant Monroe deployed with the 13th MEU, BLT 3/1 and participated in Operation Infinite Moonlight in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).  Additionally, Sergeant Monroe was assigned to provide security for the USS Cole off the coast of Yemen when the ship suffered a catastrophic terrorist attack.  

In February 2002, Staff Sergeant Monroe was assigned the duties of Company Maintenance Chief for Delta Company 1st LAR.  Staff Sergeant Monroe deployed with the 11th MEU, BLT 3/1 from June 2002 to December 2002. 

In January 2003, Staff Sergeant Monroe deployed as Advance Party SCNOIC for 1st LAR Bn to oversee the off load of all LAR gear aboard MPS Ships and establish the staging area for arriving Marines into Kuwait.  On March 19 2003, Staff Sergeant Monroe deployed into Southern Iraq as Delta Company Maintenance Chief in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Staff Sergeant Monroe redeployed in May 2003 to attend MSG school.

In May 2003, Staff Sergeant Monroe reported to Marine Security Guard (MSG) School, Quantico, VA.  After graduating from MSG School, Staff Sergeant Monroe was assigned to the following US Embassies or Consulates: Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; Valletta, Malta; Lagos, Nigeria; and Algiers, Algeria where he performed duties as Detachment Commander. 

In November 2006, Gunnery Sergeant Monroe was assigned to Third Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, Apache Company, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twenty-Nine Palms, CA where he performed the billets of Company Maintenance Chief, Company Operations Chief, and Company First Sergeant.  In September 2007, Gunnery Sergeant Monroe deployed to Rawah, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as the Operations Chief and acting Company First Sergeant for Alpha Company. Gunnery Sergeant Monroe returned in April 2008 and continued duties as Operations Chief, 3rd LAR in support of the 31st MEU.  Selected for First Sergeant in 2009, he received orders to Headquarters & Service Battalion, Marine Corps Base, Quantico.

Reporting to MCB Quantico in December 2009, First Sergeant Monroe was assigned duties as Tenant Activities Company First Sergeant from December 2009 to August 2010.  Hand selected in August 2010, he was assigned duties as Headquarters Company First Sergeant where he served until March 2012.

First Sergeant Monroe is currently Company First Sergeant for Company E, Second Battalion, Seventh Marines, First Marine Division.  

First Sergeant Monroe’s personal decorations include: Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with one gold star, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars, Combat Action Ribbon, and the Marine Security Guard Ribbon.
