Tim calls his home Quincy, Illinois, and was commissioned in the Navy in June 1993. After completing Chaplain’s School he was assigned to USS LAKE CHAMPLAIN CG-57 as ship’s chaplain home ported in San Diego, California. The ship participated in OPERATION SOUTHERN WATCH in the Northern Arabian Gulf while on deployment in 1995.
His next assignment in December 1995 was 1ST MARINE DIVISION as battalion chaplains for 2/4 and 5/11. While with 2/4 he deployed to Okinawa, Japan to serve as BLT chaplain for 31st MARINE EXPEDITIONARY UNIT. The unit embarked on amphibious shipping to participate in OPERATION TANDEM THRUST in Queensland, Australia during this deployment.
In June of 1998 Tim reported as Protestant Chapel Pastor at NAVAL AIR WEAPONS STATION CHINA LAKE in California. He served many tenant commands on board station while there and received select passenger training for tactical aircraft.
Promoted to Lieutenant Commander in August 2001 Chaplain Power was selected for the Civilian Schools Program for Naval Postgraduate School. He attended Princeton Theological Seminary receiving a Th.M. in 2002.
In June 2002 Tim reported to NAVAL BASE NORFOLK in Virginia as staff chaplain and HELTACWINGLANT chaplain. His employment there included participation in RIMPAC 2004 with HM-14 embarked aboard USS DUBUQUE.
In July 2005 Chaplain Power was assigned to 2D FIELD SERVICE SUPPORT GROUP soon re-designated 2D MARINE LOGISTICS GROUP at CAMP LEJEUNE, North Carolina. While there he deployed with COMBAT LOGISTICS GROUP 8 for OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM (OIF) based in Fallujah from September 2005 to March 2006. Upon redeployment Tim served as command chaplain for 2D TRANSPORTATION SUPPORT BATTALION, 2D MEDICAL BATTALION, and COMBAT LOGISTICS REGIMENT 25. In February 2007 to September 2007 he deployed with COMBAT LOGISTICS BATTALION 2 for OIF based in Al Asad.
In November 2007 Chaplain Power was promoted to Commander and served as NAVAL BASE CORONADO supervisory chaplain in California. Ministry for his team included service to major tenants NAVAL AIR FORCES, NAVAL SURFACE FORCES PACIFIC, and NAVAL SPECIAL WARFARE COMMAND and their units at two separate Chapel facilities.
In December 2010 Chaplain Power served as MARINE AIRCRAFT GROUP 13 supervisory chaplain in Yuma, AZ. During this tour he trained and prepared religious ministry support for 4 squadrons for Operation Enduring Freedom deployments and supervised the delivery of pastoral care during Casualty Notification and aftercare following the September 14, 2012 attack on Camp Bastion, Afghanistan. This assignment completed his experiences with all the combat elements of the Marine forces.
Presently Tim serves as 5th MARINE REGIMENT Chaplain.
Chaplain Power’s personal decorations include the Navy And Marine Corps Commendation Medal with 2 gold stars in lieu of 3rd award and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star in lieu of 2nd award. He also earned a Diploma from United States Naval War College on graduation from the College of Naval Command and Staff.
