Lieutenant Gen. Dennis J. Hejlik, commanding general, II Marine Expeditionary Force, based out of Camp Lejeune, N.C., listens to a briefing on the current and future operations of Task Force 2d Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, part of Combined Joint Task Force Phoenix.  The task force, which is serving in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, is currently operating throughout the Helmand and Farah provinces.  Comprised of approximately 1,300 service members, the reinforced light infantry battalion deployed to Afghanistan from the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Training Center at Twentynine Palms, Calif.  Its mission is to conduct counterinsurgency operations with a focus on police training and mentoring within assigned boundaries in order to set the conditions for the successful integration and future assumption of authority by Afghan National Police and to extend Government of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan authority and influence over security, and regional development.
