On 12 August 2017, the Marines, Sailors and families of 3d Assault Amphibian Battalion enjoyed some fun in the sun during the annual Gator Bash celebration. Service members and their families competed for thousands of dollars of donated items in watermelon eating contests, dance
competitions, and more. Special guests included Commanding General of 1st Marine Division, Major General Eric M. Smith and his wife Trish, as well as Congressman Darrell Issa of California's 49th District.

MARINE CORPS AIR GROUND COMBAT CENTER TWENTYNINE PALMS, Calif. – Private First Class Steven Flute (left), rifleman, 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, searches for improvised explosive devices as Cpl. Colin Adams, a team leader serving with the battalion marks the potential threats while conducting a mock raid during the Integrated Training Exercise here, Aug. 12, 2013. Flute, 20, a native of Apache, Ohio, and Adams, 22, a native of Reno, Nev., located multiple simulated IEDs for their squad. The Marines assume a supporting role while deployed to Afghanistan by letting the ANA and the Afghan National Police lead in combat operations. The ITX is a training exercise held to prepare Marines prior to their upcoming deployment to Afghanistan.
