  • On 8 September 2017, 3d AABn Commanding Officer, Sergeant Major, and color guard travelled to Joint Base San Antonio Fort Sam Houston to award Marine Corps veteran Corporal Randy D. Mann the Navy and Marine Medal for actions while serving at 3d Assault Amphibian Battalion in July of 2013. Mr.Mann put his own life at risk to save two fellow Marines during training in Camp Pendleton, California.

Moore, a native of Roseburg, Ore., enjoys the opportunity to trade his dress blue uniform for camouflage utilities and his instrument for a rifle. The security platoon is comprised of Marines of varying jobs including band members, motor transport operators and data wire technicians. Forbes was an honorary Marine for a day with Lima Battery, 3rd Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, and learned about the weapons systems and lifestyles of the Marines. He was accompanied by his parents and brother, and attended training with the battery, participating in drills and eating lunch with a section. Forbes has wanted to join the military for several years and spends time learning about the different branches. He was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a form of brain cancer in January. His diagnosis and current treatment for medullablastoma hasnt hampered his enthusiasm for the military.

Forbes was an honorary Marine for a day with the battery and learned about the lifestyles of the Marines.
