An Amphibious Assault Vehicle crewman, with 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 1st Marine Division, works on his vehicle during a mock ship to shore operation aboard the USS Makin Island September 6. Marines with the battalion are responsible for the operation of the vehicles and their maintenance.
