SgtMaj Charles F. McDew enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in January of 1995. SgtMaj McDew graduated Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) Parris Island in March of 1995 followed by graduating Marine Combat Training (MCT). Upon completion of MCT, SgtMaj McDew reported to Motor Vehicle Operators Course. SgtMaj received orders in May of 1995 to 2D Medical Battalion (2d MED BN), 2D Force Service Support Group (2DFSSG), II Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF) Marine Corps Base (MCB) Camp Lejeune, as a Motor Vehicle Operator.
In January of 1996 SgtMaj McDew was promoted to the rank of Corporal, and in January of 1998 reported to Headquarters Battalion (HQ BN), Headquarters Marine Corps (HQMC) as the Training NCO. SgtMaj McDew was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in August of 1998. SgtMaj McDew received orders to Recruiting Station Louisville, Kentucky as a canvassing recruiter. SgtMaj McDew in November of 2002 was promoted to SSgt.
In March 2004 SgtMaj McDew took over as the Motor Transportation Chief for Inspector-Instructor Staff Fort Knox, Kentucky 8th Tanks.
In May 2005 SgtMaj McDew received orders to Combat Logistics Battalion (CLB4), Okinawa, Japan as the Platoon Sergeant/ Convoy Commander. In February of 2006 SgtMaj McDew was deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). SgtMaj McDew was again deployed in support of OIF in August of 2007. SgtMaj was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant in October of 2007.
In July 2008 SgtMaj McDew was assigned to 31st MEU Okinawa, Japan where he assumed the billet as the Battalion Gunnery Sergeant. In July 2009 SgtMaj McDew received orders to 2d Marine Division (2D MAR DIV), Headquarters Battalion (HQBN), Headquarters Company (HQ CO) to assume the billet of HQ Company Gunnery Sergeant. SgtMaj McDew was promoted to 1stSgt November 2011.
In January 2011 SgtMaj McDew received orders to 2D Battalion, 2D Marines. SgtMaj McDew deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) in March of 2011. In August of 2012 SgtMaj McDew deployed in support of Libya. In April of 2013 SgtMaj McDew deployed with the Black Sea Rotational Force
In January 2014 SgtMaj McDew reported to 2D Law Enforcement Battalion, as the Headquarters Company First Sergeant.
In January of 2016 SgtMaj McDew reported to 3D Battalion, 4th Marines and assumed the position as the Battalion SgtMaj.
SgtMaj McDew’s personal awards include: Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with three gold stars, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star and Combat Action Ribbon.
