Biography
Executive Officer, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment
Major John M. Hunt
Major John Hunt attended Texas A&M University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in December of 2000. While at Texas A&M, Major Hunt attended Officer Candidate School during the summer of 1997 for the Platoon Leaders (Junior) Course (PLC) and again in the summer of 2000 for the PLC (Senior) Course. Upon graduation, Major Hunt attended the Basic School and Infantry Officers Course (IOC).

After completing IOC in December of 2001, Major Hunt reported to 3d Battalion, 8th Marines as a Rifle Platoon Commander. Following deployments to Afghanistan and Okinawa, Major Hunt assumed duties as the 81mm Mortar Platoon Commander and deployed his platoon to Haiti in 2004 and Iraq in 2005.

Following his assignment to 3d Battalion, 8th Marines, Major Hunt next reported to II MEF Headquarters Group (MHG) where he was assigned duties as the Assistant Operations Officer and the II MHG Company Commander in October of 2005. In February 2006, Major Hunt was nominated and selected to serve as the Aide-de-Camp to the Commander of Marine Special Operations Command (MARSOC). Upon completion of this assignment, Major Hunt served as the Assistant Future Operations Officer for MARSOC before reporting as a student to the Expeditionary Warfare School (EWS) in July of 2007.

After graduating from EWS, Major Hunt reported to 3d Battalion, 3d Marines, assumed command of Company L, and deployed the company to Iraq in 2009. Following this deployment, Major Hunt assumed command of Weapons Company and deployed the company to Afghanistan in 2010. Upon relinquishment of command, Major Hunt assumed duties as the 3d Marines Assistant Operations Officer from December 2010 to May 2011.

In June of 2011, Major Hunt assumed command of Recruiting Station Pittsburgh and served as the Commanding Officer until his relinquishment of command in June of 2014. Following this assignment, he reported for duty as a student at the Marine Corps Command and Staff College and graduated with a Masters of Military Studies in June of 2015. That same month, Major Hunt reported for duty to 3d Battalion, 5th Marines where he currently serves as the Executive Officer.
