Commanding Officer, 7th Marine Regiment
Colonel Jay M. Bargeron

Colonel Jay M. Bargeron was commissioned a second lieutenant in 1989 upon graduating from the University of Florida.

His command assignments include rifle and 81mm mortar platoons and a rifle company in 2d Marine Division, Commanding Officer, 2d Battalion, 8th Marines, Commanding Officer, Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force—Central Command, and  Commanding Officer, 7th Marine Regiment.

Staff assignments include Ground Combat Analyst, Marine Corps Combat Development Command, Executive Officer, 2d Battalion, 8th Marines, Staff Secretary, 2d Marine Division, Future Operations Planner and G-5 Regional Planner,  I MEF, Executive Officer, 5th Marine Regiment, Operations Officer, 2d Marine Division, Current Operations Officer, 2d Marine Expeditionary Brigade, Senior Military Assistant to the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness, and Ground Colonels Monitor, Manpower and Reserve Affairs, Headquarters Marine Corps.

He has deployed in support of Operation DESERT SHIELD/ STORM, the Unit Deployment Program in Okinawa, Japan, Haitian Migrant Relief Operations in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Operation NEW HORIZONS in Port Au Prince, Haiti, Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, Operation ENDURING FREEDOM in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, and Operation INHERENT RESOLVE.

He is a graduate of the Naval Postgraduate School, the Marine Corps Command and Staff College, the Marine Corps School of Advanced Warfighting, and the National War College.

His personal awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Bronze Star with two gold stars in lieu of third award; the Meritorious Service Medal with gold star in lieu of second award; the Joint Service Commendation Medal; the Navy Commendation Medal; the Navy Achievement Medal; the Army Achievement Medal; and the Combat Action Ribbon.
