Gunnery Sergeant Victor Ney is the Enlisted Conductor of the 1st Marine Division Band where he conducts the Wind Ensemble and the Ceremonial Band. Gunnery Sergeant Ney oversees the musical training at all levels within the unit and is responsible for the operations of the unit's public affairs section and the music library. After graduating high school in Vian, OK, Gunnery Sergeant Victor Ney attended Oklahoma City University and the University of Oklahoma where he received his Bachelors of Music Education. After teaching for a short time in Fairfax, OK, Gunnery Sergeant Ney stepped on the yellow foot prints at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego in August of 1999. Following completion of Marine Corps Recruit Training, Marine Combat Training and the Basic Musician Course at the Naval School of Music, he went on to serve in several billets during his tours with 4 different Marine Corps Bands. Key billets throughout his career include Percussion Instrumentalist, Fire Team Leader, Squad Leader, Platoon Sergeant, Percussion Section Leader, Rhythm Group Leader, Training Section Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge, Library Staff Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge (SNCOIC), Supply SNCOIC, and Assistant Conductor. Musical highlights from Gunnery Sergeant Ney's career include numerous televised performances for sporting events and performances for dignitaries and heads of state; 2004 deployment to Al Assad, Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom II; attending Naval School of Music Unit Leader's Course where he was the honor graduate; conducting the Marine Corps West Coast Composite Band for the 2011 Disney Christmas Day Parade and the 2017 Tournament of Roses Parade; and serving as the Musician Placement Director for the 4th Marine Corps Recruiting District from 2013 to 2016, where he was responsible for recruiting musicians for service in the Marine Corps Music Program.
Gunnery Sergeant Ney's decorations and service awards include the Navy Commendation Medal with Gold Star, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Gold Star, the Navy Unit Commendation, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, The Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal with silver star, The National Defense Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon and the Marine Corps Recruiting Ribbon.
