Sergeant Major Stuart D. Glass

Sergeant Major, 1st Battalion, 1st Marines

Stuart D. Glass is a native of Janesville, Iowa. He enlisted in September 1992 and underwent recruit training with Company I, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California.

In March 1993, Sergeant Major Glass completed Machinegun training aboard Camp Pendleton, California. He was ordered to Company I, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marines, Marine Corps Air Station Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii for duty. He served in multiple billets within the Machinegun Section.

Sergeant Major Glass transferred in May of 1996 to Company I, Marine Combat Training Battalion, School of Infantry, Camp Pendleton, California. As a Squad and Platoon Instructor, he provided instruction on basic infantry tactics to thousands of entry level Marines.

In December of 1998, Sergeant Major Glass completed training at Infantry Platoon Sergeants Course and the 1st Combat Engineer Battalion Sapper Leaders Course. He then reported to Company C, 1st Battalion, 4th Marines. There he filled various billets while deployed with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit and 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit.

Sergeant Major Glass then reported to Special Operations Training Group, G-7, I Marine Expeditionary Force on September 2002. He served as an Amphibious Raid Instructor responsible for training, evaluating, and certifying the combat capabilities of the infantry elements attached to Marine Expeditionary Units.

Sergeant Major Glass was then assigned to 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines in August 2005. As the Company Gunnery Sergeant with Company G, he participated in humanitarian relief in Leyte, Philippine, combat operations in Ar Ramadi and Al Kharmah, Iraq and bilateral training with the Kuwaiti and Jordanian military.

Promoted to the rank of First Sergeant on September 2008, Sergeant Major Glass transferred to Pensacola, Florida. He served as the Squadron First Sergeant for Aviation Maintenance Squadron Two. His tour in Pensacola allowed him the opportunity to participate in the intricacies of the Air Traffic Control and Avionics community.

Sergeant Major Glass transferred to 1st Combat Engineer Battalion in June 2011. He deployed as the Company First Sergeant, Mobility Assault Company in support of Operation: Enduring Freedom in 2012. He assumed his current rank in July 2013 and most recently served as the Sergeant Major of 1st Intelligence Battalion.

Sergeant Major Glass is a graduate of the Joint Special Operations Forces Senior Enlisted Academy and is an alumnus of Norwich University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Strategic Studies and Defense Analysis. He was appointed the Battalion Sergeant Major of 1st Battalion, 1st Marines on 4 December 2015.
