Brigadier General Daniel J. Skuce currently serves as the Assistant Division Commander, 1st Marine Division. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Ocean Engineering from the United States Naval Academy and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in May 1997. Upon completion of The Basic School, he was assigned to the Field Artillery School at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and designated a Field Artillery Officer.
His operational assignments include service with 2nd Battalion, 10th Marines, 1st Battalion and 5th Battalion, 11th Marines, 11th Marine Regiment, and I Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward); during this time, he deployed to the Mediterranean, Iraq, and Afghanistan. He commanded Headquarters Battery, 5th Battalion, 11th Marines; Battery A, 1st Battalion, 11th Marines; 1st Battalion, 12th Marines; and the 11th Marine Regiment.
His staff assignments include service as a Gunnery Instructor at Marine Detachment Fort Sill, Command-and-Control Advocate (HQMC/PP&O), Marine Aide-de-Camp to the Chief of Naval Operations, Strategic Plans Officer (J-5) on the Joint Staff, the Commandant’s Senior Fellow at the Center for a New American Security, and Program Development Branch Head (HQMC/P&R). He most recently served as the Military Assistant to the Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps.
Brigadier General Skuce is a graduate of the U.S. Naval War College and the Eisenhower School, National Defense University, earning master’s degrees in both National Security and Strategic Studies and National Resource Strategy.
