U.S. Army Gen. David H. Petraeus, commanding general, U.S. Central Command, visited the Marines and sailors of Task Force 2d Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force Afghanistan, Nov. 7. While speaking to the troops, the CENTCOM commander said it was a privilege to visit them in Afghanistan as they have been “walking point in our Nation’s efforts in the War on Terror. ::r::::n::“You’ve been walking point in a very bad neighborhood. It’s tough work, and the work of Marines,” Gen. Petraeus said. “I was out in Anbar Province, about a month ago, where you and many of your fellow Marines have served. I was out there with your fellow Marines congratulating them, and they said they were getting kind of bored and they wanted to come to Afghanistan. That talks about the spirit that each of you represent. You’ve had some tough losses out here; you’ve seen some buddies killed and wounded. However, you got up the next day, put the ‘ruck’ on and went outside the wire with your determination re-doubled, and you’ve done it day-after-day.” ::r::::n::Before departing the area, Gen. Petraeus thanked the Marines on behalf of all Americans for their service in Afghanistan. ::r::::n::
