The commanding officer of Regimental Combat Team 1, Col. Lewis A. Craparotta, addresses service members attending the regiment’s 233 Marine Corps birthday cake-cutting ceremony Nov. 10 at Camp Ramadi, Iraq. "As indicated in the traditional birthday message, every year on our about 10 November, Marines pause to reflect on the birthday of our Corps,” said Craparotta, during his address. “It doesn’t matter where we are; we take the time to recognize the birthday. Although we tend to throw lavish celebrations when we aren’t deployed some of our most memorable celebrations are those that took place in far away lands. Those celebrations in fighting holes in Beirut, Somalia, or Saudi Arabia—those toasts with fellow Marines deployed to Afghanistan or Iraq. Every place where Marines are deployed today, they’ll pause to celebrate the birthday of the Corps.”
