NAVAL MEDICAL CENTER SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Corporal Matthew S. Babler, left, and Lance Cpl. Justin R. Beer, riflemen temporarily assigned to Wounded Warrior Battalion West, were presented the Purple Heart for injuries sustained from sniper fire while deployed with 3rd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, to Musa Qal’ah district, Helmand province, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Major Gen. Lawrence D. Nicholson, 1st Marine Division commanding general, and a native of Toronto, presented the medals to Babler, a native of Monticello, Wisc., and Beer, a native of Bushnell, Ill., during an award ceremony here, July 31, 2013.
