Lieutenant Col. Robert C. Rice, the incoming commanding officer of 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, shakes hands with Lt. Col. Christeon C. Griffin, the former commanding officer, during a change of command ceremony at the Camp San Mateo parade deck here, June 26, 2013. Rice, a native of Richland, Wash., previously served as the executive officer of Darkhorse battalion and deployed with with them to Fallujah, Iraq, during 2007. Griffin, a native of Mims, Fla., led the battalion on a deployment with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, visiting East Timor, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and other nations.
