Sergeant Alex Carreon, a motor transportation operator with the Georgian Liaison Team, 32nd Georgian Battalion, Regimental Combat Team 7, assists Georgians in tactical decisions and diagnosing vehicle issues while deployed to Helmand province, Afghanistan. Carreon, a 26-year-old native of Bay City, Texas, volunteered for the deployment. "It's a change of pace," Carreon said. "I've done a rotation of deployments with Marine units and this was something I wanted." Carreon brings with him a wealth of knowledge, said Sgt. Earl Roost, the motor transportation operations chief. "He's reliable, outgoing, and full of energy and knowledge," Roost said. Carreon is a straight-forward talker who sets high standards for himself and others, Roost said. He is always teaching his junior Marines everything he knows and tries as hard as he can to meet his goals. Carreon, who plans to get out of the Marine Corps, joined the military because he wanted an adventure and to get away from his hometown for a while. Now, he plans to return to Bay City to become a police officer.
