Cindy Easterling, the mother of Sgt. Wade Wilson, accepts the Silver Star Medal on behalf of her son from Col. Roger B. Turner Jr., the 5th Marine Regiment commanding officer, during an award ceremony here, March 14, 2013. Wilson, a native of Centerville, Texas, was killed on May 11, 2012, while shielding a wounded Marine from enemy fire in Musa Qa'leh district, Helmand province, Afghanistan. With his M9 service pistol in hand, Wilson was shot multiple times while advancing toward the enemy combatant.
