MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. –Colonel Peter B. Baumgarten, the 1st Marine Regiment commanding officer, adorns the regimental battle colors with a streamer as Sgt. Maj. James F. Cully, the 1st Marine Regiment sergeant major, holds the staff during a battle colors rededication ceremony here, Feb. 11, 2013. Baumgarten, a native of El Paso, Texas, and graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, directed his Marines and sailors to use the ceremony as a time to reflect on their unit’s history, a precedent set by the commanding general of the 1st Marine Division, Maj.
