Sgt. Samuel R. Lott, a 23-year-old motor transportation operator from Mojave Valley, Ariz., with Headquarters and Support Company, Regimental Combat Team 1, receives his promotion warrant Oct. 1 at Camp Ramadi, Iraq. Lott was first deployed to Fallujah for a year in February of 2004 with RCT-1, then again with the unit to the same area of operations in January of 2008. As one of the few Marines in his platoon to deploy to al Anbar Province before, Lott quickly was looked to as a leader by both Marines his junior and his senior.
