CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. – U.S. Marines and Sailors with the 1st Marine Regiment and soldiers with the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force will participate in Exercise Iron Fist 2019 at various training facilities in Southern California from Jan. 15 to Feb. 8, 2019.
Iron Fist is an annual, bilateral amphibious training exercise designed to improve U.S. Marine Corps and the Japanese force’s ability to plan, communicate and conduct combined amphibious operations. Iron Fist 19 maintains the strong working relationship with our Japanese military partners and continues to build our mutual understanding of each other’s amphibious capabilities. We look forward to enhancing our capabilities and building interoperability through realistic and relevant training necessary for effective combined military operations.
Training during the four weeks will focus on advanced marksmanship, amphibious reconnaissance, fire and maneuver assaults, staff planning, logistical support, medical knowledge exchanges, fire support operations-- including mortars, artillery, and close air support-- and amphibious landing operations. This is the fourteenth iteration of the exercise, which continues to provide unique opportunities for the U.S. Marines to train with their Japanese counterparts on U.S. soil.
