CENTCOM Commander Visits Fallujah, Observes Market Life

18 Feb 2008 | Sgt. Nathaniel C. LeBlanc

Regimental Combat Team 1 hosted Adm. William Fallon, Central Command commander, during his visit to the city this week.

Fallon was accompanied by Maj. Gen. John Kelly, commanding general, I Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward), and Col. Lewis A. Craparotta, commanding officer, RCT-1. During his trip, he stopped in the Andaloos district’s Joint Security Station to speak with the Marines of 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, who live and operate there with the local Iraqi Police.

After talking with the Marines and IPs about the situation and progress in the area, Fallon took a walk through the market streets of Andaloos. He greeted and spoke with vendors conducting business, purchasing a cup of chai and other small items along the way.

The visit was an opportunity for the CENTCOM commander to observe up-close, the troops on the ground at work and the hustle and bustle of Fallujah commerce that has flourished thanks to the cooperative efforts of the local community and coalition forces.
