Commanding Officer, 1st Marine Regiment
Colonel Brandon W. Graham

A native of Minnesota, Colonel Graham was commissioned through the NROTC program in 1997 following his graduation from Boston University. A career infantry officer, his command and Operating/Fleet Marine Forces assignments include: rifle, weapons, and heavy weapons platoon command, company executive officer, and Weapons Company Commander at 3d Battalion, 4th Marines (1998-2001); Alpha Company Commander and Operations Officer at 1st Battalion, 1st Marines (2005-08), participating in Operation IRAQI FREEDOM 5-07 and 6-08; Assistant Plans Officer at 1st Marine Division (2013-14); Commanding Officer, Infantry Training Battalion at the School of Infantry (West) (2014-16); Director of Operations, Naval Amphibious Force, Task Force 51/5th Marine Expeditionary Brigade in Bahrain (2019-20); and Commanding Officer, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division (2020-present).


Colonel Graham’s other assignments include serving as Military Training Officer for 31st Seabee Readiness Group (2001-04), Training Readiness Officer for U.S. Special Operations Command (2008-11), and Readiness Section Head for Plans, Policies, and Operations, Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps (2017-19).


Colonel Graham’s formal military education includes: the U.S. Marine Corps’ Basic School, Infantry Officer Course, Expeditionary Warfare School, Command and Staff College, and School of Advanced Warfighting; and the National Defense University’s Joint and Combined Warfighting School at the Joint Forces Staff College and the Counter-Terrorism Fellowship at the College of International Security Affairs. He holds three Master’s Degrees.


Colonel Graham’s personal decorations include the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (4), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with combat distinguishing device (3), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and Combat Action Ribbon.
