After serving as the commanding officer of the 5th Marine Regiment for the past two years, Col. Jason Q. Bohm relinquished his command to Col. Kenneth R. Kassner aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California, June 24, 2015.

After being commissioned in 1991 and assigned as a platoon commander with 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, Kassner stated it felt like he was coming home.
The ceremony was held on a hill overlooking 5th Marine Regiment’s home, Camp San Mateo, to give Bohm one last look at where he had led his men.

During the ceremony, Bohm mentioned the fact he wouldn’t be where he is today if it wasn’t for the hard work and dedication of the Marines and Sailors whom he commanded.

From May 2014 to March 2015, Bohm took command of the Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force – Crisis Response – Central Command and Task Force Al Asad. Due to his abilities commanding 5th Marines, he was seen fit to build and lead the task force.

“When I was asked who was ready to take on the challenge of leading the Special Purpose MAGTF, one Marine came into mind: Col. Bohm,” said Major General Lawrence D. Nicholson, the commanding general of the 1st Marine Division.

Kassner, the new commanding officer, said he’s excited for what the future brings as his fills the new position.
He most recently served as the assistant chief of staff, programming and requirements, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command.
