Sergeant Major, 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion
MGySgt M. Draheim

 

Master Gunnery Sergeant Draheim enlisted in the Marine Corps on September 3, 1996. He attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, CA. After graduating recruit training he attended the School of Infantry at Camp Pendleton CA. He graduated the LAV Crewman Course where he gained the MOS of 0313. 

 

Master Gunnery Sergeant Draheim received orders to Third Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion.  He participated in a UDP with Company A to Okinawa, Japan and deployed with the Battalion to Egypt for Operation Bright Star.  He was also promoted through the rank of Sergeant while here.

 

In September 2000, Master Gunnery Sergeant Draheim transferred to Light Armored Vehicle Company, School of Infantry, Camp Pendleton, CA.  He served as an Instructor for both the LAV Crewman Course and LAR Leaders Course.  In October of 2003 he was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant.

 

Master Gunnery Sergeant Draheim reported back to Third Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion in February of 2004 where he was assigned as a Platoon Sergeant with Company C.  He deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II.  In December of 2005, he participated in a UDP to Okinawa, Japan with Company C as the Company Gunnery Sergeant. 

 

In January 2007, Master Gunnery Sergeant Draheim received orders to Drill Instructor School class 2-07, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, CA.  In January of 2008 he was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant.  He completed nine cycles, holding the billets of Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, and Chief Drill Instructor.

 

Master Gunnery Sergeant Draheim reported to First Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion in January of 2010.  He deployed to Afghanistan in May of 2010 as the SNCOIC for the Police Mentor Team and again in October of 2011 as the Operations Chief for Company E.  In November of 2011 he was promoted to the rank of Master Sergeant.  He deployed again in July of 2014 as the Operations Chief for Company C, BLT 2/1 and the 11th MEU.

 

In May 2015, Master Gunnery Sergeant Draheim was frocked to the rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant and reported to the Staff Non-Commissioned Officer Academy, Okinawa, for duty as the Deputy Director.

 

Master Gunnery Sergeant Draheim reported back to First Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion in October of 2015 to serve as the Battalion Operations Chief.  Currently he is serving as the Battalion Sergeant Major.

 

Master Gunnery Sergeant Draheim’s personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with combat distinguishing device, third award, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, fourth award, and the Combat Action Ribbon, second award.

 

Master Gunnery Sergeant Draheim is married to the former Angelica Herrera. They have 4 children: Kaylie, Isabel, Cole and Brynlee.
