Commanding Officer, 2nd Battalion, 11th Marines
LtCol C.C. Unger

Lieutenant Colonel Clark-Christopher Unger was born and raised in Washington, DC where he began his professional career as a congressional staffer, campaign manager, and consultant.  In 2005 he answered the call to serve by enlisting in the USMCR as a 0621-Radio Operator, serving with the 4th Civil Affairs Group before earning a commission through the Platoon Leader Course. After graduating from The Basic School and the Field Artillery Basic Officer’s Course he was designated a Field Artillery Officer. 

Lieutenant Colonel Unger’s Fleet Marine Force assignments have been with Battery S, 11th Marines as Fire Direction Officer, Platoon Commander, and Liaison Team Leader. 2nd Battalion, 11th Marines as Battalion Fire Direction Officer, Assistant Operations Officer, and Commanding Officer Battery F. Commanding Officer, Headquarters Battery, 11th Marine Regiment. In his last fleet assignment, he served as the Battalion Operations Officer for 5th Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment.

Lieutenant Colonel Unger has completed two combat deployments. In 2010, Lieutenant Colonel Unger deployed to Afghanistan as the Liaison Officer for Battery S, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. While serving as Liaison Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Unger was attached to 1st RECON Battalion as FO/LNO and participated in Operation Eastern Endeavor in the Sangin district of Helmand Province. In 2015, he deployed to Baghdad, Iraq in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. He attached to the 82nd Airborne and served as both the J-35 Future Operations Planner and J-34 Targeting Officer for the Combined Joint Land Component Command-Iraq (CJFLCC-I).

Lieutenant Colonel Unger’s supporting establishment assignments include The Basic School where he achieved Master Instructor Certification while serving as: Primary Instructor-Tactical Planning, Staff Platoon Commander for Bravo Company and Alpha Company, Executive Officer for Fox Company, and S3 Future Operations Officer. In his second supporting establishment tour served as the Commanding Officer of Recruiting Station Harrisburg, responsible for all Marine Corps recruiting operations in Eastern Pennsylvania. Under his leadership RS Harrisburg received Superior Achiever recognition from the Commandant of the Marine Corps. In his most recent supporting establishment tour, he served as the Operations Officer for the 12th Marine Corps District, leading all aspects of west coast recruiting operations.

Lieutenant Colonel Unger’s professional military education includes Field Radio Operators Course (with distinction), The Basic School (with distinction) Expeditionary Warfare School (with distinction), MATWS Weapons Tactics Instructor Course, Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center, Joint All Domain Strategist (JADS)- Air Command and Staff College (with distinction). He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Marymount University (Summa Cum Laude).
