LtCol Tyrone A. Barrion was born in San Diego, California. He graduated from the US Merchant Marine Academy in 2006 with a Bachelor's of Science in Maritime Operations and Technology and a Qualified Member of the Engine Department (QMED) certificate. In March of 2007, he completed OCS and commissioned in US Marine Corps. Upon completion of TBS in October of 2007, he reported to Marine Corps Engineer School, Courthouse Bay in Camp Lejeune. At the completion of the course in February 2008, Second Lieutenant Barrion received orders to 9th Engineer Support Battalion, 3d MLG in Okinawa, Japan.
While in Okinawa, Lieutenant Barrion served as: 2nd Platoon Commander, Engineer Company A, 9th ESB and deployed to Al Anbar Province ISO Operation Iraqi Freedom 8.2; Evacuation Control Center Officer in Charge, Headquarter & Services Company, CLR-3 for Exercise Terminal Fury; Engineer Liaison Officer, Current Operations, G-3, CLR-37, 3d MLG ISO Exercise Talisman Saber 2009; Assistant Operations Officer, S-3, Headquarter & Services Company, 9th ESB; and Commanding Officer, Bulk Fuel Company, 9th ESB where he deployed to Camp Leatherneck, Helmand Province in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 10.1, where he was frocked to the rank of Captain on 17 June 2010. He returned to Okinawa and turned over his command in February 2011.
From February 2011 to July 2014 Captain Barrion was assigned to the Facilities Department (LF), Installations, Environmental, and Logistics (IE&L), HQ Bn, MCB Hawaii. Captain Barrion served as the Facilities Maintenance Officer for Kaneohe Bay and the Leeward Facilities Officer for Camp H. M. Smith, Manana Housing, Pearl City Annex and Pu'uloa Rifle Training Facility.
Captain Barrion graduated resident Expeditionary Warfare School in 2015 and reported to 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division where he served as the Assistant Operations Officer and Engineer Support Company Commander.
In June of 2017, Major Barrion attended the Naval Post-Graduate School, earning a Masters in Science Management for the Defense Systems Analysis curriculum. Simultaneously Major Barrion completed Command and Staff College through the Marine Corps University's distance education program. For his utilization tour following school, Major Barrion reported to Headquarters Marine Corps, Deputy Commandant for Programs and Resources, Program Analysis and Evaluations Division (PA&E) where he served as the Program Analyst for MCICOM, LOGCOM, Sustainment Program Evaluation Board (SUSPEB) and the Defense Policy Review Initiative (DPRI) that established MCB Camp Blaz in Guam.
From June 2021 to July 2022, Major Barrion returned to 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division where he served as the Battalion's Executive Officer.
Lieutenant Colonel Barrion recently completed his tour as the I Marine Expeditionary Force Engineer Officer from July 2022 to May 2024, under the Assistant Chief of Staff, G-4.
