Commanding Officer, 1st Battalion, 7th Marines
LtCol John T. Meixner

Lieutenant Colonel John T. Meixner was raised in Nooksack, Washington. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy with a B. S. in History and a Minor in Chinese in May of 2004. After attending The Basic School, he reported to the Infantry Officer Course in Quantico, Virginia graduating in May of 2005.

Lieutenant Colonel Meixner then reported to 2d Battalion, 7th Marines in Twentynine Palms, California. During his tour, he served as a Rifle Platoon Commander, Company Executive Officer, and Company Commander. While serving with 2d Battalion, 7th Marines, Lieutenant Colonel Meixner deployed twice to Al Fallujah, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 04-06 in July 2005 and Operation Iraqi Freedom 06-08 February of 2007.

In May of 2008 Lieutenant Colonel Meixner reported for duty as an instructor at The Basic School in Quantico, Virginia. During this tour, Lieutenant Colonel Meixner served as a Warfighting Instructor, Staff Platoon Commander, and Company Commander. In May of 2011, he was selected to attend the Marine Corps Expeditionary Warfare School in Quantico, Virginia.

In May 2012, Lieutenant Colonel Meixner graduated from Expeditionary Warfare School and reported to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He served as the Weapons Company Commander, 3d Battalion, 6th Marines and as the Operations Officer for 2d Battalion, 9th Marines. During this tour, he deployed on the Unit Deployment Program to Okinawa, Japan in March of 2012 and September 2014.

Lieutenant Colonel Meixner served as the Commanding Officer, Recruiting Station Harrisburg, Pennsylvania from 2015 to 2018, leading Marines across Eastern Pennsylvania. In July of 2018, he was selected to attend the Marine Corps Command and Staff College in Quantico, Virginia where he earned a Masters of Arts in Military Studies.

Following Staff College in 2019, Lieutenant Colonel Meixner reported for duty to III Marine Expeditionary Force in Okinawa, Japan. During this tour, Lieutenant Colonel Meixner served as a Fires and Effects Planner in the III Marine Expeditionary Force G3 Directorate and as the Current Operations Officer for 3d Marine Division.

In August 2021, Lieutenant Colonel Meixner reported for duty to 7th Marine Regiment for service as the Future Operations Officer. In January 2022, he assumed command of 1st Battalion, 7th Marines in Twentynine Palms, CA.

Lieutenant Colonel Meixner's personal decorations include the Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal with 3 Gold Stars, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with combat distinguishing device, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with combat distinguishing device, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
