LtCol Andrew Terrell

Lieutenant Colonel Andrew E. Terrell graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Geography and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in May 2002.  He was designated as an Infantry Officer and completed training in March 2003.

Lieutenant Colonel Terrell joined 1st Battalion, 5th Marines where he deployed three times in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003, 2004, and 2005.

Lieutenant Colonel Terrell commanded Headquarters and Service Company from May 2005 to February 2006 at 1st Battalion, 5th Marines.

Lieutenant Colonel Terrell was selected for the British Royal Marine Commando exchange program and spent two years with 40 Commando, Royal Marines in Taunton, England.  During this time, he completed the All Arms Commando Course, deployed in support of two NATO exercises, and deployed to Operation Herrick 7 in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

On completion of Expeditionary Warfare School in 2009, Lieutenant Colonel Terrell took command of Lima Company, 3rd Battalion, 4th Marines.  He led his company for two deployments to Helmand Province, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

In 2012 Lieutenant Colonel Terrell joined 4th Reconnaissance Battalion in San Antonio, TX where he served as the Charlie Company Inspector Instructor and the Battalion Operations Officer.  

Lieutenant Colonel Terrell was assigned to Recruiting Station Detroit in June of 2015 as the Commanding Officer.

In July of 2018 he reported as the Current Operations Officer for the 1st Marine Division.

On July 17th, 2020 Lieutenant Colonel Terrell assumed command of the 1st Battalion of the Fighting Fifth Marines. 

Lieutenant Colonel Terrell’s personal awards include the Bronze Star Medal with combat distinguishing device and two gold stars in lieu of 2nd and 3rd awards, the Purple Heart Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal and two gold stars in lieu of 2nd and 3rd awards, and the Navy Commendation Medal with Combat distinguishing device.
