Master Chief Schrader, a native of Youngstown, Ohio, enlisted in the United States Navy in October 1992. He attended basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois. After recruit training, he attended Hospital Corpsman A-school, in which he later graduated with distinction. Upon graduating A-School in May 1993, he continued his training at Field Medical Service School, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. In July 1993, Master Chief Schrader reported to Naval Hospital Pensacola, Florida as a general duty corpsman.
In April 1996, Master Chief Schrader graduated with Honors as a Physical Therapy Technician, from the United States Army’s, Medical Department Center and School in San Antonio Texas. Master Chief Schrader went on to serve as a Physical Therapy Technician, and a number of his following billet assignments were independent duty roles.
Master Chief Schrader’s assignments include Leading Chief Petty Officer of the ship’s Military Medical Department aboard the USS KITTY HAWK (CV-63). While assigned to the USS KITTY HAWK, Master Chief Schrader earned his Enlisted Surface Warfare and Aviation Warfare designations. Other assignments include Senior Enlisted Leader, Navy Personnel Command, Transients, Patients, Prisoners, and Holdees section (PERS-4013, TTP&H); Senior Enlisted Leader, Charlie Surgical Company, Senior Enlisted Leader, Bravo Forward Surgical Company, and Senior Enlisted Leader, Headquarters and Service Company for 3d Medical Battalion. In June of 2010, he was selected to serve as Command Master Chief (CMC) of 3d Medical Battalion, 3d Marine Logistics Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force.
In February 2013, Master Chief Schrader was accepted to the Command Master Chief (CMDCM/CMC) program, earning the Navy Enlisted Classification (NEC) 9580; after which, he immediately slated for a Flag Officer/General Officer Command tour. In April 2013, he reported as Command Master Chief of 3d Marine Logistics Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force under the leadership of Major General Neil Nelson, and subsequently Brigadier General Tracy King. Master Chief Schrader’s most recent CMC tour was with Navy Munitions Command Pacific CONUS West Division, aboard Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach, Seal Beach, California. In February 2018, Command Master Chief Schrader was selected to serve as Command Master Chief to 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force and subsequently reported in March 2018.
Master Chief Schrader holds a Master of Professional Studies in Homeland Security and Public Health Preparedness from Pennsylvania State University. Additionally, he holds a Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration, and an Associate of Science in Physical Therapy.
His decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (six awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards), Joint Meritorious Unit, Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal. He has also received the Nippon Zenkokai Award by the government of Japan, for [life-saving] “heroic deeds”. Master Chief Schrader is a graduate of the National Defense University’s Keystone course (16-1), the Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy’s Command Executive Leadership Seminar, the Naval War College’s Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 146), and the Command Master Chief course (13020).
Command Master Chief Schrader is married to his “high school sweetheart”, Kristine, and they have two children.
