1st Combat Engineer Battalion Commander
Lt. Col. Seth E. Dewey

Lieutenant Colonel Dewey is from Missoula, Montana and earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Wildlife Biology from Montana State University in May of 2002.  After attending Officer Candidates School, he was commissioned in December 2002, and then attended The Basic School (TBS) and Marine Corps Engineer School. 

LtCol Dewey reported to 1st Combat Engineer Battalion (CEB) in December 2003.  While assigned to 1st CEB, he served as a Combat Engineer Platoon Commander, Heavy Equipment Platoon Commander, Aide de Camp, and Company Commander.  He and his platoon attached to 2nd Battalion 7th Marine Regiment and deployed to Iraq from February to October 2004, and he deployed as an Infantry Training Team Leader to the Republic of Georgia from July 2005 to April 2006.

In January 2007, LtCol Dewey reported to TBS for instructor duty.  While assigned to TBS, he served as a Warfighting Instructor, Engineer Platoon Commander, and as a Staff Platoon Commander for two student companies.  In 2009 he was selected for and attended Expeditionary Warfare School in Quantico, VA.

In May 2010, LtCol Dewey assumed command of Bridge Company, 8th Engineer Support Battalion (ESB).  Reorganized into a reinforced engineer company, he and his company deployed to Helmand Province, Afghanistan from January to August 2011 in support of Regimental Combat Teams 2 and 8.  Upon returning to Camp Lejeune, he was assigned as 8th ESB’s Operations Officer, and subsequently deployed with the Battalion back to Afghanistan in 2012.

In May 2013, LtCol Dewey reported to Headquarters U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific (MARFORPAC), at Camp H.M Smith, Hawaii.  While assigned to MARFORPAC, he served as the Engineer Plans Officer, Staff Secretary, and Aide de Camp to the Commander.  In 2016 he was selected for and attended USMC Command and Staff College in Quantico, VA.

In June 2017, LtCol Dewey reported to 7th ESB in Camp Pendleton, CA.  While with 7th ESB, he served as the Operations Officer and Executive Officer.  In March 2019, LtCol Dewey deployed to the Middle East for joint duty as the Deputy Engineer for Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve.  Upon redeployment in September 2019, LtCol Dewey was assigned as the Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff, G-3, for 1st Marine Logistics Group.

His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two gold stars, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with gold star, and the Combat Action Ribbon with gold star.
