Sergeant Major Brian E. Anderson was born in Phoenix, AZ.  He graduated from Washington High School in Phoenix, AZ in 1996 and reported for Marine Corps Recruit Training, San Diego, CA on January 4, 1999 where he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Private First Class upon graduation from recruit training.

 

Private First Class Anderson reported to Company C, Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry West for training and was awarded the Military Occupational Specialty 0311 Rifleman upon graduation. 

 

Private First Class Anderson reported for duty with Company L, Third Battalion, First Marines in June of 1999 and was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal on 2 August, 1999.  While serving as a Fire Team Leader and Squad Leader, in Company L, Third Battalion First Marines, he deployed with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit, the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, and also deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF I).  During this tour, he was promoted to the ranks of Corporal and Sergeant.    

 

Upon his return from Operation Iraqi Freedom, Sergeant Anderson received orders to Inspector-Instructor Staff Company L Third Battalion, Twenty-third Marines, Montgomery, AL where he served from September 2003 to March 2007.  During this tour he served as the Assistant Operations Chief and was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant.

 

In March of 2007, Staff Sergeant Anderson reported to Company A, First Battalion, First Marines where he was assigned as Platoon Sergeant, First Platoon, and again deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (06-08) from July 2007 to February 2008.  From January to July of 2009, Staff Sergeant Anderson remained the Platoon Sergeant and eventually Platoon Commander of First Platoon and deployed again with Company A, First Battalion, First Marines in support of the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit and anti-piracy operations in the Combined Joint-Task Force Horn of Africa area of responsibility.  Upon return to CONUS, he was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant and served as Company Gunnery Sergeant, Company A until his transfer. 

 

Gunnery Sergeant Anderson reported to the Combat Instructor School, School of Infantry West in January 2010 and graduated in March 2010.  Upon graduation, he was assigned as the Company Gunnery Sergeant, Company E, Infantry Training Battalion. In February of 2012, Gunnery Sergeant Anderson was selected to serve as the Crew-Served Weapons Chief Instructor of Infantry Training Battalion.  In March of 2013, Gunnery Sergeant Anderson completed a successful tour as a Marine Combat Instructor and was ordered to report to Marine Corps Installation Camp Mujuk, Republic of Korea.

 

In April of 2013, Gunnery Sergeant Anderson reported to Marine Corps Installation Camp Mujuk, Republic of Korea where he was assigned as the Operations Chief.  Gunnery Sergeant Anderson served in this capacity until his promotion to the rank of First Sergeant. 

 

First Sergeant Anderson reported to Second Battalion, Fourth Marines in February of 2014 where he was assigned as the Company First Sergeant for Company F.  During this tour, he deployed with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit to Okinawa, Japan from November 2014 to May 2015.  Upon his return to CONUS, he received orders to 1st Maintenance Battalion.

 

In January of 2016, First Sergeant Anderson reported to 1st Maintenance Battalion, where he was assigned as the Company First Sergeant for Motor Transport Maintenance Company.  In July 2017, First Sergeant Anderson was transferred to the Headquarters and Service Company where he served until his promotion to the rank of Sergeant Major in January of 2018 and receipt of orders to First Battalion, Seventh Marines to serve as the Battalion Sergeant Major.

     

Sergeant Major Anderson’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (Gold Star in lieu of fourth award), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (Gold Star in lieu of third award), the Air Force Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon (Gold Star in lieu of second award).
