Major Nathan M. Harvey was raised in Waterbury, Connecticut. He attended the University of South Carolina and graduated in May 2004.  Following graduation, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps.  Major Harvey graduated The Basic School aboard Quantico, Virginia in December 2004 with follow on orders to Field Artillery Officer Basic Course (FAOBC), Fort Sill, Oklahoma.  Upon graduation from FAOBC in May 2005, Major Harvey received orders to Second Battalion, 10th Marines aboard Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.  During this tour, he served as Forward Observer, Platoon Commander, Infantry Battalion Liaison Officer, Assistant Operations Officer, and Battery Commander.  Additionally during this tour, Major Harvey deployed in Support of Joint Task Force – Katrina and Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.

 

In May 2009, Major Harvey received orders to Headquarters Marine Corps (HQMC), Quantico, Virginia where he worked in Manpower Management Division, Enlisted Retention (MMEA-6).  While at MMEA-6, he served as the Subsequent Term Alignment Plans Officer, First Term Alignment Plans Officer, and Deputy Section Head until receiving orders in June 2012 to Second Battalion, 10th Marines.  During this tour, Major Harvey served as the Assistant Fire Support Coordinator for 6th Marine Regiment, Battery Commander, and Assistant Operations Officer for 10th Marine Regiment.   Additionally, Major Harvey deployed as an individual augment to Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force – Afghanistan supporting Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. 

 

In July 2015, Major Harvey attended resident Marine Corps Command and Staff College in Quantico, Virginia.  While attending school he earned a Masters of Military Studies degree.  After graduating Command and Staff College, Major Harvey received orders in June 2015 to serve as the Fires and Effects Coordinator at Task Force 51/5, Manama, Bahrain.  During this tour Major Harvey augmented Combined Joint Task Force – Operation INHERENT RESOLVE supporting operations in both Iraq and Syria.  Additionally, he augmented several amphibious task force strike cells and a special operations task force strike cell operating throughout Central Command battle space.  Following his tour at TF 51/5, Major Harvey received orders to 11th Marine Regiment in July 2017.  While at 11th Marine Regiment he served as the Assistant Fire Support Coordinator for 5th Marine Regiment and subsequently the  Logistics Officer at Second Battalion, 11th Marines.  Following his tour at 11th Marines Major Harvey served as the 1st Marine Division Deputy Command Inspector General/G-7 and is currently serving as the Headquarters Battalion Executive Officer.

 

Major Harvey’s personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with one gold stars, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold stars.
