Sergeant Major Jose L. Marquez

Sergeant Major (SgtMaj) Jose Marquez enlisted in the Marine Corps on April 28, 1997, from the Norwalk, Connecticut, and reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) Parris Island South Carolina (PISC) for recruit training.  After graduating from MCRD PISC, he received designation as the military occupation specialty of Infantry Basic Rifleman (0311).
He reported to Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry East, at Camp Geiger, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Upon completion of infantry training, Private First Class Marquez reported to Marine Barracks 8th & I, Washington D.C. for duty as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon; he served as a ceremonial marcher and Fire Team Leader.

In January 2000, Corporal (Cpl) Marquez received orders to Alpha Company, 1st Battalion 6th Marines 2d Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, where he served as Fire Team Leader, Armory Custodian, Squad Leader, Platoon Sergeant, and Platoon Commander.  In July 2000, Cpl Marquez was a member of the Unit Deployment Program to Okinawa, Japan.  
In January 2002, Sergeant (Sgt) Marquez reported to Drill Instructor School MCRD San Diego, California, and served in Charlie Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion. He served as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, and Water Survival Instructor.
In March 2005, Sgt Marquez reported for duty with Bravo Company 1st Battalion 4th Marines, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, California.  He served as a Platoon Guide, Mortar Section Leader, and Platoon Sergeant.  In February 2006, Sgt Marquez deployed with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, and in March 2007, was sent to the Al Anbar Province, Iraq, in support of "Operation Iraqi Freedom." 
In October 2008, Staff Sergeant (SSgt) Marquez arrived at Marine Combat Instructor School, School of Infantry West, Camp Pendleton, California, for duty as a Combat Instructor.  Upon completion, he reported to Delta Company, Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry West, Camp Pendleton, California.  He served as a Combat Instructor, Platoon Sergeant, and Platoon Commander. In April 2010, SSgt Marquez received orders to the Infantry Unit Leaders Course, Advanced Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry West, Camp Pendleton, California. He served as Unit Leader Instructor and Course Chief. 
In January 2013, Gunnery Sergeant (GySgt) Marquez reported to Echo Company 2d Battalion 2d Marines, 2d Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, and served as the Company Gunnery Sergeant.  In April 2013, GySgt Marquez took part in the Crisis Response Force for the Black Sea Rotational Force. GySgt Marquez participated in Operations "Agile Spirit" in the Republic of Georgia and "Noble Shirley" in Israel.
In May 2014, GySgt Marquez redeployed as the SNCOIC for a Security Cooperation Team in Belize.  In December 2014, he reported to Marine Corps Forces South (MARFORSOUTH), Miami, Florida, and held the Assistant Operations Chief's billet in the G3. GySgt Marquez battle tracked and supported all USMC units and exercises within the U.S. Southern Command's (USSOUTHCOM) Area of Operations (AOR).  GySgt Marquez also served as a member of the Marine Liaison Element for MARFORSOUTH to support any possible crisis response requiring Marine Corps forces within the USSOUTHCOM AOR. 
In February 2016, 1stSgt Marquez reported for duty as the Inspector Instructor site 1stSgt for Communications Company, Combat Logistics Regiment 45, 4th Marine Logistics Group. In February 2019, 1stSgt Marquez reported for duty to 1st intelligence Battalion and served as the Company 1stSgt for CI/HUMINT Company and I MEF Support BN.
SgtMaj Marquez currently serves as the Battalion Sergeant Major for 3D battalion 1st Marines.     
SgtMaj Marquez's personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with four gold stars in lieu of the fifth award, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star in lieu of the second award.
