Maj. M. Jiabia Executive Officer, 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines

Major Mike Jiabia is a native of Kansas City, Missouri and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in Aug 2004. He completed Basic Officer Course 6-04 and
Infantry Officer Course 3-05 at The Basic School (TBS) in Quantico, Virginia. Following his training he was assigned to 1st Battalion, 2nd Marines and reported in Aug 2005. Major Jiabia served as a Rifle Platoon Commander and Rifle Company Executive Officer with 1st Battalion, 2nd Marines. He deployed twice with the battalion. First deployment was aboard the USS Austin, as part of the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit in support of (ISO) Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) 4-6. Second deployment was again ISO OIF this time during 5-7 and 6-8 periods.

In April 2008, Major Jiabia reported to TBS in Quantico, Virginia. At TBS he served as the Infantry Platoon Offense/Defense Primary Instructor, Staff Platoon Commander, and two cycles as a Basic Officer Course Executive Officer. In March 2011, he reported to the Maneuver Captains Career Course in Fort Benning, Georgia where he graduated with honors.

In September 2011, Major Jiabia reported to 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines and in December 2011 deployed ISO Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) as the OIC
for an Afghan Advisor Team. During the deployment Major Jiabia assumed command of Echo Company, 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines. In July 2012, after
returning to the United States 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines received a request for forces (RFF) from Regimental Combat Team 7 ISO OEF. In January 2013,
Major Jiabia, as the Commanding Officer of Echo Company 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines redeployed ISO OEF fulfilling the RFF. Upon return from OEF Major Jiabia assumed command of Headquarters and Service Company.

In June 2014, Major Jiabia assumed his duties as the Marine Officer Instructor at the University of Minnesota in the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps. From June 2017 to June 2018, Major Jiabia attended the Army Command and General Staff College (CGSC) in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas where he graduated with honors. In June 2018, upon graduation from CGSC, Major Jiabia reported to Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, California and was assigned as the Battalion Executive Officer for 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines.

Major Jiabia's personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (gold star in lieu of fourth award),
Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon. He holds a Master of Public Affairs Degree from the University of Minnesota's
Humphrey School of Public Affairs.
