7th Marine Regiment Sergeant Major
SgtMaj Anthony J. Pompos

Sergeant Major Anthony J. Pompos was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio and attended recruit training in December 1993 at MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina. In March 1994 he completed infantry training (0311), at the School of Infantry-East, and Security Forces School in Chesapeake, VA. 

   In June 1994, Private First Class Pompos received orders to Marine Corps Security Force Company, Naval Weapons Station Charleston, South Carolina. Upon closure of the Naval Weapons Station in January 1995, he was transferred to the Naval Submarine Base-Bangor in Silverdale, Washington.

   In July 1996, Lance Corporal Pompos reported to 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines in 29 Palms, California. After just two months with India Company, he was accepted to the Battalion’s Scout Sniper Platoon where he served all billets to include: Team Leader, Chief Scout and Platoon Sergeant. He graduated the 1st Marine Division Scout Sniper School, Class 1-98 and completed two deployments to Okinawa, Japan and one deployment to Kuwait.
   In October, 1999 Sergeant Pompos reported to Drill Instructor School, Class 1-00, MCRD San Diego and was assigned to India Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion. Sergeant Pompos served as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, and finished his tour as a Marine Combat Instructor of Water Survival.

   In October 2002, Staff Sergeant Pompos reported to 1st Battalion, 2nd Marines Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He was assigned as a Platoon Sergeant for 3rd platoon, Charlie Company and deployed to Iraq in January, 2003. Immediately following the deployment, he was re-assigned as the Platoon Sergeant for the Battalion’s Scout Sniper Platoon. As a part of Battalion Landing Team (BLT) 1/2, attached to the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), he deployed to Iraq again in July, 2004.
   In April 2005, Gunnery Sergeant Pompos reported to Recruiter School, BRC 4-05, and subsequently received orders to RS Lansing, RSS Saginaw Michigan, where he served as a recruiter and SNCOIC.

   In May 2008, Gunnery Sergeant Pompos was ordered to Officer Candidate School, Echo Company to serve as a Sergeant Instructor for the summer augmentation.

   In September 2008, First Sergeant Pompos reported to 1st Battalion, 6th Marines Camp Lejeune, N.C. He was assigned to Bravo Company, and deployed to Afghanistan in December 2009.

   In August 2010, First Sergeant Pompos reported to 2d Maintenance Battalion, 2d Marine Logistics Group. Throughout his time in the battalion, he served as the Company First Sergeant for Ordnance Maintenance and Electronics Maintenance Companies.

   In January 2013, First Sergeant Pompos reported to 2d Reconnaissance Battalion, Charlie Company. While at the Battalion, he was selected to deploy to Afghanistan as the Senior Enlisted Advisor of the 215 Corps, Security Force Assistance Advisor Team. Upon completion of the deployment, he returned to 2d Reconnaissance Battalion serving as the Company First Sergeant for Bravo Company.

   Sergeant Major Pompos was promoted to his current rank in January 2015, and reported to 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, Camp Pendleton, California. As the BLT-1/5 Sergeant Major, he completed one deployment to Okinawa, Japan attached to the 31st MEU, and a second deployment while attached to the 15th MEU.

  His personal decorations are as follows: Bronze Star with Combat V, Meritorious Service Medal with one star, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Combat V and two stars, Navy Achievement Medal with two stars, and the Combat Action Ribbon with one star.
