Course Description
Division Schools Corporals Course provides students the basic knowledge and skills necessary to be the world’s most successful small-unit leaders. The intent of Division Schools is for corporals to complete the course with a feeling of confidence in their leadership abilities as well as comfort with -- not expertise -- in the content they have encountered. They graduate with a belief that their course experience has been worthwhile. This is not accomplished by focusing on rote memorization and standardized testing, and rather by employing best practices, adult learning methodologies, and the direct application of the learned skills. The course focuses on instructor facilitation and mentoring via practical application and evaluation of the student's ability to master specific tasks.
Student success is based on the ability of instructors to infuse mentoring into every facet of the course when and where possible. Opportunities for effective mentoring can arise during lectures/demonstrations, small-group discussions, practical applications, and even performance evaluations. Instructors do not attempt to mold every student into their vision of a perfect corporal. Their mission is to serve as role models for Marines in their charge while preparing them for future leadership roles.
Corporals Course is a mastery/non-mastery design. All performance evaluation events are evaluated using the rubrics provided the College of Enlisted Military Education, Marine Corps University. The written exams are graded using a standard point-based system, which will translate to a mastery/non-mastery score for the student. The focus of a mastery/non-mastery course affords instructors the ability and responsibility to mentor their students as they attempt to master the performance evaluations.
Target Population Description
This course is intended for Corporals. The College of Enlisted Military Education authorizes commanders to waive the physical fitness test and combat conditioning practical application for Marines with an alternate approved fitness program to attend the Command-Sponsored Corporals Course. Waivers should be limited to Marines who possess leadership, maturity and have been favorably endorsed by the chain of command. Pregnancy and limited duty should not prevent a Marine from attending a command-sponsored Corporals Course. This course is not intended for international students.

Nomination Process
-
Registration will close if a class reaches its maximum seat capacity ahead of the registration closed date. If this happens, the following class’s registration will open early. This will be communicated during the nomination process.
-
Class seat capacity is shown next to the class number. This is driven by several factors to include: Marine Corps University guidance, staff, and physical space. These seat dates may change slightly throughout the year.
-
Units may request to have Marines added to the standby roster for classes that are full prior to the report date. Standby Marines must still meet the requirements outlined below. Marines that are not accepted as standbys will be offered preferential seating for the next following course.
-
Seat availabilities are shown as (Seats Taken/Maximum Seats)
Nominations Instructions
- Units should submit their nominations via the "Submit a Nomination" tab facilitated by MS Forms.
- Non-Resident PME. Completion of Non-Resident is not a requirement for nomination. However, Commands assume responsibility for their Marine's completion of their Non-Resident PME. Marines have until their respective Report Date to complete their Non-Resident PME. Marines who fail to meet this requirement will be turned away. This matter is non-negotiable.
- Height and Weight. Marines must meet height and weight standards. If they need to tape, please ensure they report in with the required worksheet. Marines will be turned away for not being in compliance with MCO 6110.3A CH-3.
- Medical. Marines must be in a Full Duty status with verification from Primary Healthcare Provider and have a current PHA.
- Light or Limited Duty. For Marines in a Light, Limited Duty status, and/or pregnant Marines may still be nominated and attend the course, but they must present their Light Duty/LIMDU chits when reporting in. Chits must be signed by their PHCP and current with their status accurately reflected on their Command Screening Checklist otherwise they may be dropped or treated as a Full Duty Status Marine. Please indicate during nomination if your Marine is in a Light or Limited Duty Status and ensure that their paperwork is current.
- PFT/CFT. Marines must be current on their PFT and CFT as required by MCO 6100.13A CH-4. Marines with a failing score will be turned away. Marines who are "Required, Did Not Take" will be turned away. PFT/CFT scores must be from current calendar year, scores from previous calendar year will be turned away.
- Time in Service Obligation. Marines must have six months of Obligated Service remaining on contract upon graduation. Units may submit a waiver for this and can contact Division Schools.
- Select Grade E4. Lance Corporals may be nominated if they are Select Grade E4. Units must submit the waiver format that we can provide upon request.
