The ceremonial cake detail presents the birthday cake during Regimental Combat Team 1’s 233 Marine Corps Birthday celebration at Camp Ramadi, Iraq, Nov. 10. Servicemembers aboard the camp gathered to hear Gen. John A Lejeune's birthday message and watch a video birthday message by Commandant of the Marine Corps Gen. James T. Conway and the Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps Sgt. Maj. Carlton W. Kent. The commanding officer of RCT-1, Col. Lewis A. Craparotta, took a moment to address everyone in attendance. “Over the past five years Marines have sacrificed a great deal in the Ramadi -Fallujah corridor. We have a new generation of Marine heroes and all of you here are a part of another chapter of the illustrious history of our Corps. The accomplishments of Marines here in Iraq will be celebrated in years to come at the Marine Corps Birthday along with the great battles of Iwo Jima, Guadalcanal, Inchon, Hue City and others. So as we pause to celebrate and reflect on our history today, be proud of where you are and what you have accomplished you are indeed worthy successors to those that have gone before you and you are living up to the legacy of the Marines in our Corps.”
