Nawa District Governor Abdul Manaf (right) and Garmsir District Governor Mohammad Fahim enjoy a meal during the Voices of Religious Tolerance reunion shura, Sept. 14. The VORT program was originally a partnered initiative between the Afghan government, the Kingdom of Jordan, Regimental Combat Team 1 and the U.S. Department of State that exposed 30 key leaders from Nawa, Marjah, Garmsir, and Lashkar Gah districts to a prosperous, moderate and modern Islamic society. The program's key themes of tolerance and cooperation with Muslims and non-Muslims alike were reinforced by district officials during the reunion shura. During the shura, Manaf also emphasized his enduring objectives of peace, poppy eradication, education and security.
