Captain Michael Linhares, the forward air controller for Company A, 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 2, runs with local children at Combat Outpost Cafferetta in Now Zad, June 15. Linhares, 32, from Vancouver, Wash., often runs and works out with the boys to prepare them for an upcoming season of soccer. Nearly every day, the local children gather at the gate of COP Cafferetta waiting for Linhares to join them. With language being a small barrier between Linhares and the children, he often has to demonstrate the request before it is clear. Although the language barrier may slow things down, Linhares never lets it put a stop to training with the children.
