Maâ??Moun Sami Rashid, the governor of the Al Anbar province, Iraq, speaks of the future contributions of the newly opened K3 Oil Refinery and its ability to help the Iraqi people during a ceremony at the refinery July 18. Over 100 government and community leaders gathered at the refinery to celebrate its reopening after a three-year hiatus. The refinery is capable of processing 16,000 barrels of crude oil per day and will create new jobs for the local community. Ford, a scout with Delta Company, 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd LAR Bn., Regimental Combat Team 5, holds a min-American flag and a stainless steel cross that he carries on every patrol for good luck at Camp Korean Village, Iraq, June 7. Ford, 30, from Bronx, N.Y., volunteered to take time away from his normal job, a firefighter with the New York City Fire Department, to be a Marine infantryman fighting on the front lines. McCutchan, 32, from Dewey Ariz., who is the Iraqi Womens Engagement team coordinator with Detachment 1, Civil Affairs Team 5, 2nd Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 5, and "Violet," who is the IWE team's interpreter, talk with the Hamed Khalid Abrahim, the mayor of Rawah, Iraq, about what was discussed during the IWE meeting in Rawah May 31. The Iraqi culture has strict rules about female and male interaction. The IWE team is an all female team that can talk to the Iraqi women. By meeting and discussing living conditions in the city, the Iraqi women can suggest changes they would like to see to coalition forces and their community. - Capt. Christy L. Deguzman, 24, a corpsman with Team Mustang, 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, Regimental Combat Team 5, holds a magazine on his favorite hobby, surfing, at Patrol Base Rio Grande, Iraq, May 10. The corpsman, whom the Marines with 2nd LAR nicknamed "Gus," from Santa Rosa, Calif., joined the Navy in March of 2004 at age of 20. He wanted to become a 'doc' for the experience of medical care and service to Marine infantrymen. Since his first deployment of three, he has been awarded two Bronze Star Awards, one with combat distinguishing device, a Purple Heart Award and a meritorious promotion to his present rank. - Petty Officer 2nd Class Jason C. The Barwana Civil Affairs Team was relocated to Haditha, and the Barwana government will now be responsible for the welfare of its residents.
