CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. -- The Marine Corps has identified Private First Class Tanner F. Rubio as the Marine who died in a tactical vehicle mishap on Dec. 3 at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendelton.
Rubio, 21, is a native of Dixon, California. He joined the Marine Corps in January 2025. Rubio was trained as an infantry rifleman and was assigned to 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division.
“The tragic loss of Pfc. Rubio is one felt across the 1st Marine Division,” said Maj. Gen. Thomas Savage, commanding general of the 1st Marine Division. “He will be sorely missed, but his honorable service to his country will not be forgotten. All of us at the Blue Diamond will keep him and his family in our thoughts and prayers.”
The tactical vehicle mishap occurred in training unrelated to Exercise Steel Knight 25. The incident is currently under investigation. To preserve the integrity of the investigation, no additional details are available at this time.
