Sergeant Major, 11th Marine Regiment
Sergeant Major Albert Diaz

Sergeant Major Diaz was born in Matagalpa, Nicaragua. His parents migrated to Miami, Florida in 1979. Upon graduation from Coral Gables High School in 1987, He enlisted and attended recruit training at Parris Island South Carolina. Upon Graduation he attended the School of Infantry as a basic rifleman. He was then assigned to First Battalion Sixth Marines Bravo Company. He served in various billets to include Team leader and squad leader. During this period he made various unit deployments to Okinawa Japan and participated in Contingency operations in the Republic of Panama. He also participated in Operation Desert Shield /Desert Storm.

Upon return from the Middle East 1991 Sergeant Major Diaz received orders to Weapons Training Battalion Parris Island to serve as a Block Non-Commissioned Officer. During this period he served as Tower Non-Commissioned Officer, Assistant Line NCOIC, and Primary Marksmanship Instructor. In 1994 he received orders to Second Battalion Fourth Marines serving as Squad Leader, Platoon Guide and Platoon Sergeant in Golf Company. He also served as Battalion Color Sergeant and participated in various operations and deployments with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit to include operation Deny Flight 1995 and contingency operations NATO IFOR.

Sergeant Major Diaz received orders to Recruiter School in 1997. Upon graduation from Recruiter School he reported for duty as a canvassing recruiter to First Marine Corps District, Recruiting Station New York, and RSS Bronx. He served three years on recruiting duty and held the following billets Assistant Non Commissioned Officer, Recruiting Station NCOIC. He received various awards while on recruiting duty to include Rookie Recruiter of the Year and Recruiting Station Recruiter of the year.

He was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant in July 2000.In the summer of 2000 Sergeant Major Diaz received orders to First Battalion Third Marines, Weapons Company. He served as Platoon Sergeant Heavy Machine Guns Platoon; He also served as Company Gunnery Sergeant and First Sergeant for Bravo Company 1/3 while also serving as operations Chief for Regimental Schools Third Marine Regiment.

He participated in various deployments and operations to include Southern Watch, Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. Sergeant Major Diaz was selected to the rank of First Sergeant in 2004 and received orders to Inspector Instructor Staff, Augusta Georgia. He served as I&I First Sergeant until 2007.

Sergeant Major Diaz received orders to Fleet Anti- Terrorism Security Team Regiment, FAST CENT Bahrain. He Served as First Sergeant for FAST CO CENT for a period of 18 months. During that assignment SgtMaj Diaz and the Fast Company Marines provided anti-terrorism support to the Middle East Region along with OEF/OIF support. Sergeant Major Diaz received orders to First Marine Special Operations Battalion. He held the billet of Head Quarters and Service Company First Sergeant. Sergeant Major Diaz was selected to his current rank in November of 2009 and received orders to First Radio Battalion. During this assignment he participated in Combat Operations in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  Sergeant Major Diaz received orders and reported to Iwakuni, Japan with MWSS-171 in August 2011.  Sergeant Major Diaz received orders and reported to 2D Battalion 11th Marines in November 2013. SgtMaj Diaz received orders July 2D 2015 and reported to his current post as the Regimental Sergeant Major for 11th Marine Regiment.

Sergeant Major Diaz’s personal decorations include: The Meritorious Service Medal and the  Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (with Three Gold Stars) the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement medal (with two Gold Stars), Combat Action Ribbon, Good Conduct medal Seventh award with various Service and Unit Awards.
