Commanding Officer, 3rd Battalion, 11th Marines
Lieutenant Colonel Von Bergen

Lieutenant Colonel Von Bergen was commissioned in 1996 and after completion of The Basic School and Field Artillery Basic Officer’s Course he was assigned to 3d Battalion, 11th Marines where he served as Guns Platoon Commander, Forward Observer and Fire Direction Officer.   From August of 1999 until June of 2000 he served as the Fire Support Coordinator for 1st Tank Battalion.

In June of 2000 Lieutenant Colonel Von Bergen reported to Officer Candidates School where he served as Platoon Commander, Executive Officer, Assistant Logistics Officer and Assistant Operations Officer.

In January of 2003 Lieutenant Colonel Von Bergen attended the Field Artillery Captain’s Career Course, upon completion he reported to 5th Battalion, 11th Marines.  He commanded Sierra Battery from September 2003 until August 2005 deploying in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  He then served as the Battalion Operations Officer and Battalion Executive Officer.

In May of 2006 Lieutenant Colonel Von Bergen reported to 1st Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company where he served as the 1st Brigade Platoon Commander deploying twice in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

In February of 2009 Lieutenant Colonel Von Bergen attended Command and Staff at the Naval War College, upon completion he reported to United States Special Operations Command where he served in current operations.

Prior to assuming command of 3d Battalion, 11th Marines in May of 2013, he was assigned to I MEF (FWD) as the Fires and Effects Officer in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
