Executive Officer, 1st Reconnaissance Battalion
Major Pablo J. Cabrera

Major Cabrera was commissioned through the Officer Candidate School program in the United States Marine Corps in August of 1998.   Completion of The Basic School and Infantry Officer Course, he was assigned to 1st Battalion, 8th Marines.   He served as a Rifle Platoon Commander, Anti-Armor Platoon Commander and Company Executive Officer.  He deployed with BLT 1/8, 22 MEU (SOC) in 2001 and participated in peace keeping operations in Glogovac, Kosovo. 

Selected for a career broadening tour, he completed the Ground Intelligence Officers Course and reported to 2d Marine Division G-2 in June 2002.  Shortly after, he was selected and assigned to 2d Reconnaissance Battalion and graduated from Amphibious Reconnaissance School, Basic Reconnaissance Course in the fall of 2002.  Major Cabrera deployed as 2nd Platoon Commander, Company A in support of RCT-2, Task Force Tarawa for Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003.  To complete his intelligence career broadening tour, Major Cabrera deployed with 2d Marine Division G-2 as a combat operations center watch officer for Operation Iraqi Freedom in Camp Blue Diamond, Ramadi, Iraq in 2005.

Major Cabrera reverted to his primary 0302 MOS and was assigned to 1st Battalion, 8th Marines.  He served in the billets of Bravo Company Commander, battalion S-3 assistant operations officer, and military transition team leader from 2005-2008.  He deployed with 24 MEU (SOC) in 2006 and supported the evacuation of American citizens from Beirut, Lebanon as the BLT 1/8 Embassy Security Detachment OIC.  The following year he completed a one-year combat tour in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2007-2008 as a Military Transition Team Leader. 

Major Cabrera returned from OIF and was assigned to U.S. Southern Command in Miami, Florida in 2008.  He served first as the executive officer to the Joint Operations Center.  Major Cabrera was selected to Aide de Camp for the U.S. Southern Command Combatant Commander, then selected a year later to Combatant Commanders’ personal staff as Deputy Executive Officer.

Major Cabrera was selected to attend resident Intermediate level school at U.S. Army Command and General Staff College in Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas in August 2011.  Upon graduation, Major Cabrera was assigned to 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division.

Upon reporting to 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, Major Cabrera was assigned to a I MEF Security Force Advisor Assistance Team (SFAAT) as Team Leader for a Police Advisor Team.  He deployed to Delaram, Nimruz Provence, Afghanistan in 2013 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  Currently he is the Executive Officer for 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division.

Major Cabrera’s personal decorations include; Bronze Star with “V”, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (third award) and combat action ribbon (second award).
