First Sergeant Tony R. Murchison
A native of North Carolina, First Sergeant Murchison enlisted in the Marine Corps October 19, 1993 and Graduated from MCRD Parris Island 3rd Battalion Kilo Company on January 7, 1994 as a Squad leader and was meritoriously promoted to Private First Class.

Upon completion of Recruit training PFC Murchison proceeded to Marine Combat Training at Camp Geiger, NC and subsequently to Motor Transport School at Camp Johnson, NC. After obtaining the MOS of 3533 (Logistic Vehicle Systems Operator) in March 1994, he was meritoriously promoted to Lance Corporal and was ordered to 7th Motor Transport Battalion, 1st FSSG Camp Pendleton, CA an assigned to “C” Company, Heavy/Refuelers Platoon.

In September 1995 Lcpl Murchison was meritoriously promoted to Corporal and attended Corporals Course at Camp Del Mar, California, Semi-Refueler Course at Camp Johnson, NC and was assigned section leader and participated in multiple combined arms exercises, Special Operations Capable exercises in support of MEU Service Support Group 11, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit.

In August 1996 he was transfer to 3rd Maintenance Battalion 3rd FSSG Okinawa, Japan for duty as the Battalion Truck Master and Assistant Operations Chief.

In June 1997 he was promoted to Sergeant and transferred to Headquarters Battalion Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, CA an assigned as Platoon Sergeant /Troop handler at Separations Company.

In December 1997 Sgt Murchison filled a “hot fill” an was transferred to 8th Motor Transport Battalion, Bravo Company, Camp Lejeune, NC and held billets as Platoon Sergeant, Operations Chief, Maintenance Management Chief, also attending Motor Transport NCO Operations Course, Mishap Investigations Course and Sergeants Course.

In January 2000 Sgt Murchison was transferred to 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion 2nd Marine Division Camp Lejeune, NC for assignment as Motor Transport Platoon Sergeant, Battalion Licensing NCO and Operations Chief. In October 2001 he was promoted to Staff Sergeant and attended the Motor Transport Operations Chief Course at Camp Johnson, NC. In February 2003 he was deployed with the Battalion in support of Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom attaching to Regimental Combat Team 5, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines participating in combat operations throughout central Iraq.

In January 2004 SSgt Murchison received orders to MCRD San Diego to Recruiter School. Upon graduation from the school he was assigned to Recruiting Station Richmond, Virginia for duty as a canvassing recruiter and Staff Non-Commissioned Officer In charge of Recruiting Sub-Station Petersburg. While serving as SNCOIC his station was Small Recruiting Sub-station of the year for Fiscal Year 2005 and Fiscal Year 2006, he was the SNCOIC of the Year for FY 2006 and was meritoriously promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in January 2006.  

In March 2007 GySgt Murchison was transferred to “Americas Squadron” Marine Wing Support Squadron 171 Iwakuni, Japan for duty as Company First Sergeant, Motor Transport Company. While serving as Company First Sergeant he deployed the Company to Yechon, Korea in support of 1st Marine Air Wing exercise Foal Eagle.

In April 2008 GySgt Murchison was reassigned within “Americas Squadron” and assumed his duties as Engineer Company First Sergeant. In October 2008 he deployed with the company to the Republic of the Philippines in support of 1st Marine Air Wing exercise Talon Vision. The company deployed in January 2009 to Camp Fuji, Japan for cold weather training in support of exercise Bulldozer 2009.

In May 2009 after being selected to First Sergeant he executed orders to 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division, Twenty-Nine Palms, CA for duty.  In November 2010 First Sergeant Murchison deployed to Afghanistan and participated in combat operations in Rig District and Sangin District of Helmand Province in support of International Security Assistance Forces Afghanistan.

In February 2012 First Sergeant Murchison receive orders to 3d Assault Amphibian Battalion, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, Ca an assigned to Company A. September 2012 he deployed to Okinawa in support of the Unit Deployment Program (UDP).  While deployed he participated in bilateral exercise Keen Sword 2012 embarked onboard the USS Denver LPD conducting amphibious landings. In April 2013 the company deployed the Republic of Korea for bilateral exercise SSang Yong 2013 conducting partnered amphibious assault, raids and bilateral training with the ROK Marines.  In May 2013 after redeploying from UDP Okinawa, First Sergeant Murchison assumed duties and the Headquarters and Service Company First Sergeant.

First Sergeant Murchison’s decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal(Gold star in lieu 2nd award), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2 Gold stars in lieu 3rd award), Combat Action Ribbon(Gold star 2nd award), Presidential Unit Citation, Navy Unit Commendation (bronze star 2nd award), Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation (bronze star in lieu 2nd award), Good Conduct (silver star in lieu of 6th award), National Defense Medal (bronze star in lieu 2nd award), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (5th award), Marine Corps Recruiting Ribbon.
